MIDDLE SCHOOL BUSINESS MANDavid Robertson, ACME Trucks em2

David grew up on 135 acres of land in Sweeny, Texas.  In the 8th grade David decided to purchase a calf for $400.  He ended selling that calf for $1500.  He began to save his earnings as he continued in clubs like 4H, TCCJ, TJLA, and Future Farmers of America (FFA) where he learned how to take care of, breed, and handle livestock.  David started a Registered Breed Farm in the 8th grade.  Yes, his parents helped take care of the cost of feed and cages, but it was all David’s idea. “I realized how much money I could save and then bought baby chicks for 25cents and sold a group of 3 for hundreds of dollars.”

Because of his efforts in middle school and high school David was able to pay out of pocket and with no debt for his education.  With farming as his hobby David chose to go to community college.

EDUCATION

David went to Alvin Community College and obtained his Certification in Emergency Medicine.  He worked within the paramedic field as he continued school. As he neared is associates degree he decided emergency medicine was not what he was interested in.  David decided to train for with and take his CDL driving test in order to drive 18 wheelers.  David was fortunate to pay for his schooling from his earnings as an animal farmer.

CAREER

David began to drive 18 wheelers after he obtained his CDL license.  As a driver he learned knowledge of the costs of trucking.  He also learned how to make daily logs or charts of his routes in an organized book and how to communicate effectively with others.

Then David applied to become a dispatcher.  A Dispatcher within a trucking company is a person that answers phone calls from companies that need to move large objects.  They then call the individual owners of trucks and ask them to pick up and drop off those objects.  In the oil industry there are large pieces of metal pipes and other objects that constantly need to be shipped.

David was then promoted to Load Safety Supervisor where he was the person who went to each site where they wold load a pipe and would ensure that the truck driver arrived safety and loaded the right equipment.  This position involved a lot of in-person contact with very important customers.

Finally with all of the experience within logistics behind him, David was promoted to Sales Representative.  David now drives a company truck and connects with clients all over Houston.  David has won the Houston Highest Revenue Terminal Accolade from ACME Truck Line Inc.  David is proud of his accomplishments and believes there are certain skills necessary for the job.
